The Power of Sharing Your Story

July 23, 2014

Sharing who you really are is your greatest gift to the world!

Psalm 71:15-18 “I will tell everyone about your righteousness.  All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words.  I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord.  I will tell everyone that you alone are just.  O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do.  Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God.  Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.”

Every Christian is called to share their story…  Either Publically or Privately… Because in reality its God’s story.  Your testimony is the story of how real God is and how He transformed a life.  You may not be called to share all of the deep details like what God has asked of me…  But in some way you are to share what God has done in your life with others.  The Bible is a historical Holy Spirit inspired record of testimonies & stories and how much have we been impacted by it?!  This world needs to know God is real and you have experienced Him in ways that could transform the lives of others.  Jesus is the HOPE of the world through us.

Revelation12:11 (NLT) “And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.”

Whatever God has done in you is the answer for those who are still going through.  Your boldness to share your story could be the answer to years of prayer for someone else.  Who do you know right now that is dealing with something you found victory over?  How could you encourage them?

Psalm 40:9-10  “I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord. I    have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your                    faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation.”

DON’T HIDE GOD’S DELIVERANCE IN YOUR HEART.  DON’T HIDE WHAT HE HAS DONE UNDER A BASKET.

An Authentic Connection... Sharing your story gives you access to a person’s life.  It’s amazing how people open up when they realize you’re someone that just might understand.  The realness of your story is a KEY that opens people up to the possibility of what God can do for them.  Communicating the gospel from a transparent place.  A real place that people can connect with and apply to their lives.   There really is something beautiful and powerful about people feeling they can relate to you.

1 Corinthians 9:22 “When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.”

When we hide behind the plastic mirage of perfection as ministers…  We become unapproachable, because we are un-relatable

Be Intentional about sharing outside of the “Christian Box”.  I am trying to use every avenue that I can to reach out to people who are hopeless…  To spread awareness about trafficking.  STEALTH MISSION for jesus.  I get to speak in schools and community programs (secular venues).  I’ve kinda used social media as my “soap box”.  And I don’t claim to be a wiz at it.  But my point is, I’m constantly looking for opportunities to share what God has done.  To talk about how real He is and that He still heals and works miracles today.

Your Life is not Your Own

Jeremiah 10:23 “I know, LORD, that our lives are not our own.  We are not able to plan our own course.”

Matthew 5:16  “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that   they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

When people know my story, they have to in some way give credit to God for how my life is today.

If you’re going to share your story with boldness, there must be a shift from shame to giving God the fame.  Where you no longer feel like you have to hide your past, but everything you’ve went through becomes a tool for God to use to bring Glory to Himself.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Philippians 3:3 (NLT) says, “…We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us.  We put no confidence in human effort.”

Tips on the Journey of sharing your story:

1. Journal it out.  Look at your life in sections. Study the word in those specific areas.  Go deeper in discovering God’s message to you and to others dealing with those same things.

2.  Healing and Recovery focus

3.  Forgiveness Train  (Make things right before sharing publically)

4. Specifically look for secular venues to be a witness of who God is to intentionally win people to God.  (Look for ways to introduce Jesus to your community)

5.  No Shame or Fear

6.  Never confess or draw attention to someone else’s sins when sharing your story.  Put emphasis on how a situation affected you.  Don’t judge or accuse others in your story, but always strive to be a peace maker.

7.  Always end your story in a place of HOPE… weather you are sharing it publically or privately.

8. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY there will be resistance

My prayer for you is that you get a fiery spark and passion to connect with and relate to people like never before.

2 Timothy 1:6  “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”

Psalm 51:12 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”
